Render
Give, make, depict, perform, process, melt, cover; these are some of the various meanings of the word “render.” I don’t intend for the listener to have a specific image, concept, or feeling in mind while listening. Instead, I hope the soloist’s interaction with the material provides a musical space for the listener to explore and interpret.
The broadness of the title also represents the multi-faceted qualities of the music. There are moments of intricately processed noise, melodic lyricism, and rhythmic patterning. The clarinet “makes” sounds that are then “processed” by the computer which “creates” textures and colors with which the clarinet can further interact.
