Concerto
This three-movement work was originally a set of two short miniatures for tuba and piano, composed in 2007. In the fall of 2008, at the request of Michael Grose, Professor of Tuba at the University of Oregon, a movement was added (the first) and the other two movements orchestrated to create a small concerto.
The first movement begins aggressively and develops the ideas presented in the opening moments throughout the rest of the movement. The harmonic language is at times very tense and angular which is eventually contrasted by the more open and calming mood of the second movement. The final movement is unrestrained, lifting the piece to a rousing climax.
