Fanfaronade
This brief little fanfare was originally a classroom study on rhythm; specifically the overlapping and subsequent variation of groupings of three, four, five, and six. The two trumpets play off the rhythm and pitch patterns of each other, moving in and out of phase. The title is an actual word and means “boastful or arrogant talk.” Fanfaronade is ultimately derived from the word “fanfare,” which, appropriately enough, means “a flourish of trumpets.”
